dusitD2 and d’spa:Where urban chic meets coastal bliss
The RELAX team was invited to visit the recently opened dusitD2 Baraquda Pattaya hotel and d’spa in central Pattaya. DusitD2 is a second generation Dusit managed hotel; it’s a vibrant, fun, boutique hotel with many novel features. Inspired by Sea, Sun, and Sanuk (Fun), the hotel has a nautical theme throughout. We were met in the Reception Bar by the friendly Khun Tasara Taksinapan (Cat), public relations and event whiz, who guided us around and answered our questions. dusitD2 opened early in 2009, with just 72 rooms, and full five star facilities including a residents’ lounge, d’gym, free wifi, d’spa, two bars and the SEA restaurant. Khun Cat showed us the three grades of room, all of which were very inviting.
Starting from the 60 de-luxe rooms (37m2) through the 8 Studio suites (75m2, two rooms, 1½ bathrooms) to the 4 Loft Suites (81m2, two rooms and 1½ bathrooms on two floors). All the rooms have their king size beds in the centre of the rooms, and the Studio and Loft Suites have Jacuzzis in the bedroom. One bar in on the top floor of the hotel, and looking like the prow of a ship, is a great spot to watch the sun set over the sea. The other (Baraquda) deep bar also has a nautical theme, but this time under the sea, with the ceiling looking like the underside of an iceberg.
Then we were greeted by the dynamic d’spa manager Khun Charin Sangsuwan, who showed us the five treatment rooms (doubles with double showers), all lit by natural light from large windows looking out onto peaceful gardens. The treatments are inspired by the sea, using natural marine products including sea-plants. The detailed menu explained the body treatments, facials and water treatments. Menus are changed to suit the seasons. Anyone is welcome as a guest, whether a hotel resident or not.
My colleague and I enjoyed a one hour deep sea relaxing massage and aquamarine facial, with therapists Mantop and Pui.
